Institut National des Sciences Appliquées – France

INSA Lyon is one of the top universities of Science and Technology in Europe. Created in 1957, INSA Lyon trains yearly more than 900 humanist multi-competent engineers over a 5 year curriculum and has 24 research laboratories. The LGCIE (Laboratory of Civil and Environmental Engineering, 140 persons including 55 permanent researchers and 50 PhD students) includes a research group on “Urban Water Systems - UWS” which is one of the leading groups at both French and international levels in the field of urban drainage and urban water management. The UWS research group deals mainly with i) production and transfers of water and pollutants in UWS, ii) treatment of storm water effluents in both traditional networks and in BMPs infrastructures and iii) performance analysis (incl. performance indicators, decision making and multi-criteria analysis) of the operation of UWS. For all topics, metrology / monitoring and modelling are coupled. The group is very active in many national and international collaborative research projects. The social sciences research group EDU (Environments and Urban Devices, 19 persons including 5 permanent researchers and 14 PhD students) from the INSA Lyon - CNRS UMR 5600 Laboratory EVS (Environment City Society) works on social aspects related to urban development and urbanization, particularly to urban water systems and their operation, management and social perception.
